HIV/AIDS Prevention Program

KEY ACTIVITIES UNDER HIV/AIDS SPREAD PREVENTION:

COMMUNITY RISE ALLIANCE, under this program, CRA works to prevent HIV/AIDS Spread with our main focus on youth and teenagers as our most target population. To achieve this, the following are our main activities under this program;

- Conducting VCT services: We strongly believe that preventing HIV starts with self-care by knowing your status, and having positive behavior on safe sexual practices. We have committed to provide condoms to youth and to bring closer HIV/AIDs testing services to help youth know their HIV status.
- HIV/AIDs Awareness Raising: We teach how to use, we encourage using and we advocate for distribution of Condoms to public places for youth in Rwanda.

- PMTCT Raising Awareness: HIV can be transmitted from an HIV-positive woman to her child during pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding.
For this fact COMMUNITY RISE ALLIANCE is Committed to provide to youth and general population with accurate information on Prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) programmes and to support pregnant mothers l iving with HIV/Aids to have access to antiretroviral treatment (ART) in order to reduce new HIV infections among Children.
Without treatment, the likelihood of HIV passing from mother-to-child is 15% to 45%. However, ART and other effective PMTCT interventions can reduce this risk to below 5%. Worldwide, around 1.6 million new HIV infections among children have been prevented since 1995 due to the implementation of PMTCT services. Of these, 1.3 million are estimated to have been averted in the five years, between 2010 and 2015.Despite this significant progress, in 2015 23% of pregnant women living with HIV did not have access to ARVs and 150,000 children (400 children a day) became infected with HIV.

Our Core Message to Youth “Condoms are extremely effective in stopping the spread of HIV and reducing the transmission of many other sexually transmitted diseases”.
- Free HIV Tests: in Partnership with Government of Rwanda and other international and local partners, COMMUNITY RISE ALLIANCE offers FREE HIV Testing in our areas of operation with many interventions in Schools, Youth Associations and other places where youth often meets.
- Advocacy, COMMUNITY RISE ALLIANCE works as an advocacy effort to ensure Access to Prevention of HIV Spread in Youth, Testing and to ensure every person living with HIV is retained on treatment.
- “By educating yourself about HIV and AIDS, you can better safeguard your health and know better how safely you can live with HIV virus”.
